Delaware ERA is a Dangerous Trojan Horse

The purpose of the proposed Delaware Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) is not to affirm natural rights as enshrined in the Delaware and U.S. Constitutions. The objective is the elimination of the natural right to present arguments against any form of human behavior or speech an unelected judiciary determines is an “equal right”. This is reason enough for grave concern, but the actual goal of the proponents of the ERA is far more insidious.

The radical left’s newest technique is to parse society into ever-smaller interest groups, especially when the interest groups’ goals are antithetical to the needs of Western culture. Once granted protected “equal right” status, any criticism becomes hate speech or discrimination, which will be subject to prosecution.

The legal onslaughts against florists and bakers who chose not to provide services for gay weddings or marriages due to a deeply held religious conviction are just the opening skirmishes in the coming attacks against religious freedom and freedom of speech.

The ERA is a nothing less than a Trojan horse, which carries within it a worthless and fully discredited, but rebranded Marxist ideology. As Jonah Goldberg explains in his book, Liberal Fascism, totalitarian regimes present themselves as classically liberal, when they are always repressive and brutal.

If the Delaware ERA amendment to the Constitution is enacted, anyone opposed to “equal rights” will be immediately labeled a misogynist, homophobe, racist, xenophobe, extreme right wing or any epithet useful to silence debate. This is the technique postmodernism uses to attack the totality of Western culture, which they despise!

Postmodernist philosophy began after World War II, with the defeat of Nazism and Imperial Japan, the rise of the former Soviet Union and the beginning of the Cold War. These Marxist failures to create a Utopian society that pitted the working class against the capitalist exposed the ideology as evil. Simultaneously, the opportunity for rapid upward mobility in Western culture further discredited Marxism.

Into this ideological void stepped the postmodernists, with their deep-seated resentment of the free market, self-determination and the corresponding upward mobility, which undermined their Marxist Utopian vision. They do not believe in logic, reason, or dialogue, which explains the need for victimology to further their neo-Marxist goals hidden in the ERA.

Postmodernist thought exhibits itself in a virtually endless list of issues of the day. Examples include, Black Lives Matter, transgenderism, multi-culturalism, third-wave feminism, national sovereignty, immigration, recreational marijuana legalization, the “right” of insurance coverage for infertility, sexual reassignment surgery, unrestricted abortions, “safe” heroin injection clinics, the current “gun violence” debate and the accompanying marches. They all portray the “victim” in the forefront to silence any opportunity for real debate.

It also includes the global warming hypothesis, with the earth as the preeminent “victim” plagued by its human oppressors. The global warming narrative, as with the other topics offer “exemplars” to support the victimology, with the dichotomy always expressed as the oppressed against the oppressor, instead of the traditional Marxist bourgeois (capitalist) versus the proletariat (worker).

The Fascist/Communist ideology under Hitler, Mao, the former Soviet Union, the Cambodian Khmer Rouge, and other totalitarian regimes is responsible for at least 100 million deaths worldwide. The current governments of South Africa and Venezuela are the newest Marxist devotees most media outlets conveniently ignore, because they offer modern-day examples of failure that further undermines the Utopian narrative.

In the face of insurmountable evidence, which demonstrates Marxism is a pernicious ideology, the committed Leftist claims, “It will be different this time”, as the aforementioned examples are not representative of “true” Marxism. All that is required, they say, is the “right” administrators to correct the heinous (but they must believe, necessary) “mistakes” of the past. They are historically illiterate and delusional when they make these claims.

As James Madison famously wrote in Federalist Paper No. 51:

“If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government, which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself”.

This quote explains the need for a system of checks and balances to preserve natural rights, as it highlights the danger of placing unrestricted power in the hands of anyone, or as granted under the proposed ERA — in the hands of an unelected judiciary.

The ERA is among the most dangerous threats to individual freedom ever proposed because it allows courts to define the nature of what is, or is not a “right” in the name of equality of outcome. This is impossible on earth as all of the catastrophic Utopian failures clearly demonstrate.

Citizens need to understand, once again, government does not grant natural rights; they are birthrights granted by God and outcomes are unpredictable. If they do not act now, they will lose the freedoms so many have died to preserve, or they may find themselves faced with alternatives far less desirable than vocal opposition to the ERA.
